The head of secretariat of Supreme Court of Afghanistan was shot dead early Saturday in the capital city of Kabul, local officials said.
The incident took place near the 5th district police station of Kabul after armed insurgents opened fire at Atiqullah Raoufi's vehicle when he was in the way office, spokesman of Kabul Police Chief Hashmat Stanekzai confirmed.
Raoufi was severely injured in the attack but later succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to the hospital, according to officials.
The Taliban in a statement have claimed responsibility for killing a high-rank official of Supreme Court.
The attack on a high-rank official of Supreme Court came two days after a suicide attack occured in the French Cultural Center at Istiqlal High School of Kabul, only a few meters away from the Presidential Palace, in which one foreign civilian was killed and nearly 20 others were injured.
